Funeral Card Friday – Johanna Donahue Lucey 1922

Johanna Donahue Lucey, my 2nd great-grandmother, was born in Upper Shronaboy, Glenflesk, County Kerry Ireland on the family farm. There are still Donoghue’s living there today! Her father John wrote her this letter from Ireland in 1896.

This was published in the Rochester Courier the week after her death.

Hi Sheryl, They just don’t write obits like they used to do they? The newspapers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries seemed so personal. In this same paper there are small articles that say things like “John Smith visited Haverhill today to buy a new hat and visit his uncle”. Thanks for reading!
